Wow now September, slow down a minute. Let’s take a look back first at what was a busy August. The marina was hopping at the height of the 2017 season while the cabins kept filling up and the restaurant was a hive of activity.
The restaurant is, of course, one of the many draws that keep guests coming back. This year we decided to take it up a notch by enriching the classic menu with all new favourites including a Jagerschnitzel with wild mushroom sauce and a Kaese Spaetzle dish (yum and yum). The wine list was also added to and expanded upon to feature all new local and international wines to tantalize the taste buds (yum also applies here).
This August Blind Channel hosted two live music and dinner buffets. The first event on August the 5th welcomed back the musical stylings of The Dave Blinzinger Trio. The second event on the 19th was brought to you all the way from Vancouver by the Longhand Band. The music had many a toe tapping under smokey summer skies, while the kids stole the show with unrivalled dance moves and the buffet had guests returning for seconds.
Moving beyond the dock this year has been an incredible experience. The busy tour season had our boats exploring far and wide showing off the majesty of these islands and the wildlife that calls them home. Some of the most memorable adventures this August included watching a mother bear and her cubs on the beach, only to realize that a cougar was watching the same bear as well as a super pod of resident orcas joining us for the day in Nodales channel including nearly 100 whales. Other days on the water included record humpback sightings, hungry sea lions, playful dolphins, foraging bears, and oh so much more.
A huge thank you goes out, after a busy season, to all of our wonderful staff who make all this possible. The end of August always sees a few of our seasonal staff leave for new adventures and this year was no exception as we wave goodbye to Anna, Jitka and Blake with many thanks.
That’s all, for now, folks, thank you to all our first time and returning guests. For those of you who came to see us at the Seattle Boat Show, Thank you! We can’t wait to see everyone again this January. Don’t forget to stop in this September when wildlife is abundant and the crowds are few. In the meantime here is a look back on August:
